AO Headlines FY 22 with its 8(a) Certification

Astraeus Operations (AO) is an Alaskan Native Corporation (ANC) – owned, Small Disadvantaged Business that is kickstarting the year by earning its 8(a) certification.

Established in 2020 and led by President Matthew Markley, AO offers training, operational, and maintenance services to the federal government and DoD. AO is a small business with large business capabilities due to its shared-services Program Management Office (PMO) structure, provided by Chenega Corporation’s Military, Intelligence, and Operations Support (MIOS) Strategic Business Unit (SBU). The business support services include Human Resources, Finance, Contracts, Marketing, Business Development, Talent Acquisition amongst other things. Keeping these day-to-day operations at the MIOS level allows AO employees and management to stay focused on what really counts — the customer’s mission.

The 8(a) program was created to help small businesses compete. The 8(a) certification allows small businesses to compete for sole-source and set-aside contracts. These contract types allow companies to expand their efforts to better align with their customers’ needs. To achieve the certification and meet the 8(a) standards, AO has sought out work and demonstrated scalable contracting solutions that will allow them to compete effectively in the private marketplace once they graduate from the 8(a) program.

The 8 (a) advantage

“Contracting with Astraeus offers the best of both worlds,” says Markley, “the stability of a large corporation with the backing of Chenega Corporation, but the efficiency and rapid responsiveness of a small company. We look forward to providing best-in-class services to support our clients’ mission fulfillment.”
