Chenega IT Enterprise Services (CITES) recognizes Jonathan Mason, Cybersecurity Subject Matter Expert (SME), for his significant contributions to the modernization and cloud migration of the Strategic Materials Analysis and Reporting Topography (SMART) platform, a capability supporting the US Government’s strategic materials and supply chain analysis efforts.

Jonathan Mason, Cybersecurity SME
Jonathan played a key role in helping the U.S. Army Geospatial Center (AGC) successfully transition the legacy SMART platform into a modern, secure, cloud-based environment. The SMART system provides advanced geospatial and data analytics capabilities that enable analysts to track, assess, and report on the National Defense Stockpile and defense-critical supply chains worldwide. This modernization effort strengthened the platform’s ability to support critical decision-making, congressional reporting, and national security objectives.
As part of the AGC Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Geospatial Enterprise Support Team, Jonathan helped navigate a highly complex cybersecurity and accreditation landscape to support the migration of SMART to a multifactor-enabled, Department of War (DoW)-authorized Palantir Software as a Service (SaaS) platform. The enhanced system now delivers improved visibility into global supply chains, strategic mineral resources, critical infrastructure, and corporate relationships that impact defense readiness.
The project achieved several remarkable milestones, including obtaining an Initial Authority to Test within six months of DLA funding and a full Authority to Operate (ATO) in less than one year for an Impact Level 5 (IL5) SaaS environment. This accomplishment represents a significant achievement in secure cloud modernization and reinforces AGC’s leadership in delivering innovative geospatial enterprise capabilities.
The AGC DLA Geospatial Enterprise Support Team was recognized with the Director’s Award for Scientific and Technological Achievement, presented by John Clifton, Chief Information Technology Officer at the U.S. Army Geospatial Center. While government regulations prevent awards from being formally presented to contractor personnel, AGC leadership specifically acknowledged Jonathan’s important role in the initiative.
“I [want] to acknowledge that Jonathan Mason [played] a significant role in this effort and his contributions are greatly appreciated.”
— John Clifton, Chief Information Technology Officer, U.S. Army Geospatial Center (AGC)
Jonathan’s expertise, dedication, and commitment to mission success were instrumental in delivering a secure, scalable, and sustainable platform that strengthens the nation’s ability to protect defense-critical supply chains. His efforts exemplify the innovation, technical excellence, and partnership that drive success across the AGC and CITES teams.
Congratulations, Jonathan, on this outstanding achievement and thank you for your continued support of critical national security missions!
