Havis began with Chenega in 2014 and has been donating to Unbound since 1991. Unbound is an organization that partners with families living in poverty, empowering them to become self-sufficient and fulfill their desired potential. Each year, Havis sponsors a couple of children to invest in their personalized benefits to support those specific individuals and the goals chosen by the children and their families. He chose this nonprofit because its mission means a lot to him. He says, “(Unbound) provides personal attention and direct benefits to children, youth, elders and their families so they may live with dignity, achieve their desired potential and participate fully in society. Charitywatch (a website that vets charities) gave Unbound an A+ grade, noting that the amount Unbound spends on programs relative to overhead is 93%.”
Recently, Havis reached out to Chenega MIOS to match his donation, so together, we could support twice as many children. He has helped so many children over the years grow to their true potential, a true act of kindness, and an all-around feel-good type of story. Chenega MIOS is proud of its promise that 100% of the corporation’s profits go back to benefitting the Native shareholders and their families, so this charity’s mission is one that hits close to home. We are so appreciative of Havis’s motivation to give back to the less fortunate and are lucky to have him as a member of CITES.
