Venturi would like to spotlight John Conover for his outstanding leadership, deep expertise, and lasting contributions as Vice President of MDA Strategy & Capture. John has been a cornerstone of Venturi’s success since its founding in 2006 and continues to play a vital role in shaping the company’s direction and culture.
In his day‑to‑day role, John serves as the Test Support Functional Lead for Targets, leading a 15‑person team that provides flight test planning, vehicle integration, and mission operations support to the Missile Defense Agency. Beyond that, he brings extensive missile defense and system test expertise to Venturi’s business development and proposal efforts. He also plays a critical behind‑the‑scenes role as Venturi’s Organizational Conflict of Interest (OCI) expert, helping ensure the company stays compliant, and competitive in a complex contracting environment.
John’s favorite part of the job is the people. He deeply values the teams he works with at Venturi and MDA and finds the greatest satisfaction in collaborating with talented, dedicated professionals who share a commitment to mission success.
One of John’s most significant accomplishments came early in Venturi’s history. In 2008, during the most challenging economic period in the U.S. since the Great Depression, Venturi was forced to recompete its entire contract portfolio after its primary customer consolidated hundreds of task orders into a small number of functionally aligned contracts with strict conflict‑avoidance and exclusive teaming requirements. Although Venturi had to divest some work, John was instrumental in protecting the company’s core business and expanding into new functional areas through strategic teaming. At a time when many small businesses in Huntsville were closing their doors, Venturi not only survived—it grew.
Outside of work, John’s favorite way to decompress is spending time on the water, whether sailing, whitewater canoeing, or enjoying just about any aquatic adventure. During COVID, he also discovered new creative outlets, developing interests in cooking and the art of bonsai.
John’s motivation is rooted in a strong work ethic passed down from his father, as well as the people who have shaped his professional journey. Thank you, John, for your unwavering dedication, strategic leadership, and the experience, humor, and heart you bring to Venturi every day.
